SM UB 61 was part of a convoy together with submarines SM UB 64, SM UB 75 and SM UC 49. They were secured by outpost boats FALKENHAYN, BROCKENWALDE and DIRK VAN MINDEN as well as torpedo boats S 19 and T 131. SM UB 61 was hit by mine at ca. 21:00 and 34 crew members got lost. The Mine was probably laid by the British submarine E 51. On 29.11.1917 at 22:00 the loss of SM UB 61 was reported by Vp BROCKENWALDE and Torpedo Boat S 19.
