New Commercial Director at the DSM
The German Maritime Museum / Leibniz Institute of Maritime History (DSM) is getting a new Commercial Director. Matthias Templin will be responsible for finance, administration and real estate as of July 15. The Foundation Council, the museum's supervisory body, has appointed the 55-year-old Diplom-Betriebswirt (FH) to the DSM Board of Directors.
Before starting at the DSM, Matthias Templin was, among other things, head of the Technikmuseen Sinsheim Speyer and the Speyerer Veranstaltungs- und Messe GmbH. Before that, he held various management positions in the trade fair industry and also passed on his knowledge as a lecturer for trade fair marketing and trade fair controlling at the Düsseldorf Academy for Marketing Communication.
"In both the trade fair industry and museums, despite all the differences, the focus is on people - and it's all about knowledge transfer," says the new DSM Managing Director. "I'm looking forward to the new challenge at the German Maritime Museum and to contributing my professional expertise for the benefit of the museum."
Matthias Templin succeeds Katharina Horn, who left the museum at the end of January this year for personal reasons. As part of the two-member DSM Board of Directors, he will work alongside interim Executive Director Prof. Dr. Ruth Schilling from mid-July. While he will take care of the financial, administrative and structural matters of the house, Schilling will continue to be responsible for the content-related orientation of the house and will steer the areas of science, collection, exhibition, outreach and communication.
"Matthias Templin brings valuable experience not only from the museum world, but also from the event industry," says Schilling. "Our house can benefit from this with a view to the reopening of our extension with a new exhibition, which is due in 2024. I look forward to working with him."
