Seamen's arm
The internationally renowned artist Stephan Balkenhol created the sculpture Seamen's Arm for the German Maritime Museum. It found its place when the supplementary building to the museum (architect: Dietrich Bangert) was handed over to the public in 2000. Since then, the sailor's arm, on which a woman is "tattooed", has become a point of attraction, also for all those who take the way to the original museum building (architect: Hans Scharoun), which was opened 25 years earlier.
